Conditions that have responded to acupuncture:
The response to acupuncture of 18 anxious adult subjects who complained of insomnia was assessed in a clinical trial study. Five weeks of acupuncture treatment was associated with a significant increase in melatonin secretion (measured in urine) and significant improvements in sleep as measured in a sleep lab. Significant reductions in anxiety scores were also found. PMID: 14990755
- Obesity and high cholesterol
A study done on China (2005) involving 90 patients was conducted to search for an effective method for treatment of obesity and to study the mechanism of acupuncture slimming treatment. RESULTS: The acupuncture group at a 76.3% success rate. The group that used only dietary changes had a 27.5% success rate. Acupuncture also decreased serum triglycerides, total cholesterol, and LDL and at the same time increase HDL (good) cholesterol. CONCLUSION: Acupuncture combined with diet therapy is an effective method for reducing weight at present, and metabolism of lipids is involved in acupuncture slimming mechanism. PMID: 16312889
