US Healthcare Ranks Last
Americans get the poorest health care and yet pay the most compared to Germany, Britain, Australia and Canada. The U.S. health care system ranks last compared with five other nations on measures of quality, access, efficiency, equity, and outcomes.  according to a report released last week in Scientific American.

"The United States is not getting value for the money that is spent on health care," Commonwealth Fund president Karen Davis said in a telephone interview.

On May 19, 2007, the Ministry of Agriculture confirmed Saturday that an outbreak of H5N1 bird flu in Hunan Province in China had the first outbreak of bird flu in 3 months. Nearly 65,000 birds were culled to stop the spread of disease. With the environmental conditions throughout China, it should come as no surprise that birds-and humans-continue to become ill.

 

Millions of chickens and ducks have been killed over the last four years and yet, outbreaks continue across China and Southeast Asia. Until the underlying causes are addressed and a massive environmental clean up is undertaken, poultry and human outbreaks will no doubt continue to occur. There has been a great deal of concern among members of the health freedom community about the FDA Revitalization Act (PDUFA, S.1082). While there are reasons to oppose the bill, I want you to know the truth: 
It does not affect the authority of DSHEA and it does not increase FDA oversight of dietary supplements. 
 
This bill is considered a "must pass" bill by Congress; failure to do so is considered irresponsible by members of the legislature. However, dietary supplements are specifically excluded from the scope of this bill. Voters can have a major impact on FDA by asking their members of Congress, to address the Institutional Conflict of Interest at the FDA within the context of this bill.  This single thing could do more in the next five years to protect dietary supplements from FDA abuse than any other single thing the community could do. 
 
As president of the board for the American Association for Health Freedom, I encourage you to contact Congress. I spent two days last week lobbying on Capital Hill for health freedom; they *do* want to hear from you! Tell your congressman and senator to remove the institutional bias at the FDA.Find out more about this bill; the future of your health is at stake.
